Hall of Fame Migraines

Ok this past Sunday was a total wasted day, I had a dreaded, awful migraine and basically laid in bed, or next to the toilet the entire day. As I was laying there, in my misery I was reflecting on some other major migraines I have endured through the years and decided to post my Hall of Fame migraines. I have suffered from this dreaded calamity for 20+ years, and finally decided I needed a top ten migraine list! 🙂

So here goes, they go from “best” to the “worst!!”……… #3,#4 and #1 are my “favorites.”
#10 – I remember getting 1-2 bad migraines on my honeymoon. Hubby and I took a 5 week honeymoon to Vt. ( we are both teachers and had off all summer). We then took several day trips to Maine, NH, Canada etc. I remember several times during those trips telling hubby to” pull over I am going to throw up.” And despite the rough start, we have been married for 18 years now……and he still treats me like a queen when I have migraines!
#9 – I remember the date was Dec. 5th 2004, I had taken a personal day from school to go Christmas shopping, instead I stayed in bed all day with a migraine!

#8 – Last summer, I got one on the family vacation to the beach, I was so bummed that I had to stay home while hubby took the kids to the beach all day.
# 7 – A good friend who I hadn’t seen for a number of years had recently moved to within an hour of my house. We were eager to visit with each other, and she was looking forward to showing me her new home. I remember arriving at her doorstep with my kids in tow, she answers the door, greets me with a hug, and I promptly reply, “where is your bathroom I need to throw up!” It’s a good thing she was a good friend!!!

#6-Yes this past Sunday was a major migraine, I am certain I didn’t take good care of myself at Creation, lack of sleep, and eating junk for several day wore on me. So I had to endure a migraine, however I was soooooo thankful it didn’t happen at Creation, and I kept thinking of the song Casting Crowns sang the previous night, “Praise You in this Storm.” As I was lying there in my misery these lyrics kept coming to my mind….

And I’ll praise you in this storm
and I will lift my hands
for You are who You are
no matter where I am
and every tear I’ve cried
You hold in your hand
You never left my side
and though my heart is torn
I will praise You in this storm

#5 – Years ago my hubby was in a Christian band, his band traveled around in this refurbished, old school bus. He had a concert one winter in Niagara Falls. I was traveling with him and was really looking forward to seeing Niagara Falls in the winter, unfortunately, I had a migraine the entire way up, I remember throwing up behind some gas station in the snow, and arriving at this beautiful Hilton Hotel, only to go right to bed and miss the entire concert!

#4– Hubby’s band also played on the Fringe Stage at Creation years ago. I was pregnant, and it was a very hot day, a bad mix for me. So I had a major migraine the entire day I was there. I threw up behind the Fringe Stage, I remember seeing two teenage girls watching me as I “left my lunch” behind the stage. I muttered out to them “I am pregnant!” I still remember the one girls reply…..”Oh that is soooooo gross, I am NEVER getting pregnant.” A great way to stop the teenage pregnancy rate!! 🙂

#3– When I was SAHM I had a horrible migraine one day. The kids were little, and I basically had them watch videos all day. At some point in the midst of my misery I remember throwing up in the bathroom, and I as I am laying on the floor of the bathroom I hear a faint knock on the door, followed by this conversation.

“Mommy did you throw up?”

I eeeek out…”Yea”

There is a long pause and then dear daughter asks, “Can we come see it?”
#2 – Dec. 05 our family traveled aboard our church school bus to NYC for the day. It was to be a fun day of meeting my brother for lunch and touring NYC. Instead my migraine started around lunch time and got much worse as we walked around Times Square. I don’t remember the bus ride home, but I do remember the stark contrast I felt as I got on the bus in busy, chaotic Times Square and arrived home about 4 hours later to a quiet, peaceful, starry night in the country.

#1 My number one worst migraine ever is….drum roll please……

The first time I went to meet my future in-laws, we drove 10 hours, I remember arriving at their home in NW Ohio, muttering nice to meet you and promptly heading off to a bed where I would lay for the next 24 hours! It’s a good thing first impressions are not lasting impressions.

So there you have it folks! 🙂

I recently read a post from another migraine sufferer, I loved her attitude about praising God in her suffering. Her attitude has inspired me to follow hard after the Lord and even thank him even while I suffer! Check out Mrs. Wibbs post on her migraine! Anytime you are dealing with pain and suffering I truly believe attitude does make a big difference in how you cope with it. Another wonderful women with a beautiful attitude through her suffering is Amy over at Laughing Through the Tears, check out her blog, I guarantee she will encourage and inspire you.

I know I try my best to keep the big picture in mind of what really matters in life, not my temporal pain……

Ephesians 1:18

I pray also that the eyes of your heart my be enlightened in order that you may know the HOPE to which he has called you, the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints, and His incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of His mighty strength!
