I used to be such a purist when it came to food I fed my family. I was always baking things from scratch using some whole wheat flour in everything I made. I made an array of delicious casseroles and special dishes for dinner. But now with the age of my kids and our current busy lifestyle, I have on occasion resorted to buying a box of frozen fried chicken, frozen mashed potatoes, a veggie, some fruit…and calling it dinner. To show how low I have stooped, we are having a Girls Alive girl’s night tonight. I am in charge of planning games for about 30 girls and need to bring a hot dish and a dessert to share………well in my rush for time, I am planning to bring an old scrumptious dish called, hot dogs in a roll! Oh I have really stooped! But for this season of life, I will have to deal with bringing hot dogs. I did bake cookies last night, so I am not a total loss. Maybe I will put the hot dogs on a fancy plate. 🙂
~Update~ The hot dogs were a hit!!! 🙂
A hot dog once in a while is a good thing? I hope so, because it happens around here. LOL.
We all have to Do Hard Things once in a while. Sometimes that means taking hot dogs. LOL

Don’t sweat the small stuff Sandy! Most kids love hotdogs and especially when they’re all fancy like rolled up in bread! Hey, and they can grab one and eat it on the run if need be. And a pretty plate always helps too! :o)
Have fun!!
A hot dog every now and then won’t hurt anything…I love your idea of putting them on a “fancy” plate! 😉
LOL. I use to be just like you…everything from scratch. Our daughter does not like hotdogs, but trust me, I have recently made some out-of-the box dinners. No guilt either.
Hey, don’t be so hard on yourself. YOU CAN’T DO EVERYTHING!! I think it’s awesome that you’re involved in your kids’ activities. Some parents who work full-time have a hard time finding the energy to do that.
Bless you and have a wonderful time!! 🙂
Hot dogs on a fancy plate – that’s blog worthy! yes, a bloggable idea 🙂 so don’t forget to take a photo 🙂
I love hot dogs!
We calls those pigs in a blanket, cut up hot dogs wrapped in cresent rolls. Mmm! There is never a single one left when I make them. I’ve never really had time (or took the time) to make things from scratch (except dessert on occasion). I do use the turkey dogs and reduced fat cresent rolls. Noboby knows the difference.
I think that it’s okay to have hotdogs, but the limit is 2 per year – not sure where I heard that…I’ve been trying to make as many meals from scratch as I can – do you recommend any websites or cookbooks that you find helpful?
