This is where The Inventor sat and had lunch everyday for the last 6 months. Yep it’s her middle school cafeteria, can’t you tell!?!? Or should I say what was left of the cafeteria.
Our school district opened a BRAND NEW middle school this year, the kids were able to move in, in March. Fortunately they were able to stay in their old school until the new one was finished.
But now they have moved onto a beautiful new school the old school is being demolished. Every morning when I drop off the Inventor I get to witness this former shell of a school, once filled with screaming hormonal middle schoolers, now being razed!
This WAS once a thriving school, just a few weeks ago, now it is NOTHING but a pile of ruble, dust and brick.
Every morning this building reminds me of this line, from an old poem.
We’ve Only One Life ~ It Soon Will Be Past ~ Only What’s Done For Christ Will Last
I am also reminded of these verses from Corinthians
10By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as an expert builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should be careful how he builds. 11For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12If any man builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, 13his work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each man’s work. 14If what he has built survives, he will receive his reward. 15If it is burned up, he will suffer loss; he himself will be saved, but only as one escaping through the flames.
Congrats on your new middle school! We don’t have “middle school” in our district. We have a junior high (7th and 8th grades). This was a great post and analogy (i think i have the correct word!!). Is it hot where you are? it feels like august here in the albany NY area….today was a high of 97 I just found out…I thought it only got up to 92…but just heard on radio it’s 97…a little too early for me….we still have 4 more weeks of school!!
Just found your blog! I love the way you describe each member of your family!
What a great lesson to be gleaned from that. Still makes me sort of sad to see an old school demolished. So many memories in that place, I’ll bet.
