Had to take hubby to the ER

This past Thurs. night I had to take my dear husband to the ER. Around 5:30 he started complaining of a headache. And over the next hour it went from bad to horrible. He laid down on the couch, ( which he never does, he always goes up to our bed to lay down when he isn’t feeling well), he could barely open his eyes, his hands were tingling, and I could tell by the expression on his face the pain was bad. He has never had a migraine before or anything similar to this.
The poor guy was hurting so bad, but God love him, he meekly said to me, “if I die tonight, I am going out praising God.” He said he was thinking of the song by Chris Tomlin, “How Can I Keep From Singing.” These lyrics kept ringing through his pain;

Sing ’cause You’re there
I can sing ’cause You hear me, Lord
When I call to You in prayer
I can sing with my last breath
Sing for I know
That I’ll sing with the angels
And the saints around the throne

You just have to love a man who in such excruciating pain can proclaim the goodness of God. 🙂

However, after he casually mentioned to me that he was going to praise God even if this were his last breath, combined with the fact that I asked have you ever had anything similar to this before, and he said, “this is the worst headache of my life.” I knew then we needed to head the the ER.

Last summer my mom had an aneurysm burst in her brain, she miraculously survived after being in the hospital for a month. Knowing of her symptoms, and what I had read about this type of stroke I knew we shouldn’t take any chances. I had also read that many people who suffered a serious brain bleed, had said, it was “the worst headache of their lives.” So when hubby said those exact words I decided we must go to the hospital.

I called my brother and sister in law who just happened to be in town for a wedding. They were able to quickly come home from the rehearsal to watch my kids and my nieces. When we arrived at the hospital a dear christian women we knew just happened to be there to “check us in,” she was able to get hubby seen right away.

They gave him pain meds and ordered a CT scan right away. Thankfully as soon as he got the meds going he began to emerge from the grasp of the pain and brain fog. I was obviously relieved and thankful, and was not as worried. We ended up staying in the ER for about 3 hours, turns out he was fine. A bad sinus infection appears to have been the culprit of the pain. So after spending $215 at our local pharmacy, he was out riding bike and playing baseball with SportTman yesterday, just as if nothing had happened! After an incident like this I find myself reflecting on the many things I am thankful for………
I am glad we went to the ER

I am glad we have insurance to cover the upcoming bill

I am glad that I have a hubby with a heart for the Lord in the midst of such pain

I am glad my brother and sister in law were in town

I am glad that dear christian women was at the hospital and was able to also pray for us

And I also learned that if my husband starts singing the Chris Tomlin song “How Can I Keep from Singing,” it may be a sign that I need to take him to the ER!!!!!! 🙂

  1. PTL he is okay! And PTL for his sweet spirit at such a painful time. Sounds like you had lots of Godincidences too with family and friends just when you needed them most. God is good!

  2. Praise God that it wasn’t an aneurysm!!!!

Having had an aneurysm, I can identify with what your thoughts were at the time. You absolutely did the right thing in that situation.

May the Lord bless you, your family and that worshipful-hearted husband of yours!!!

    🙂

  3. Praise God for all the blessings you and your husband received in this situation! And, my my, that is ALL GOD that he was able to sing praises to the Lord in his unbearable pain! What a testimony!

So glad all is well now!
