I grew up in the suburbs of Washington DC, and in that town everyone is a Skins fan. Growing up I of course was the ultimate tomboy of the 70’s. I feverishly followed the Skins and to this day still remember the names and numbers of many players from the teams of the 70’s and early 80’s. I used to have a 45 record ( a record is is like a big CD for all you youngsters who may not be familiar with that term!!! 🙂 ) that I would play “Hail to the Redskins” constantly on my record player. As a long time fan, I have wanted to attend a game for years. At my recent HS reunion in Md. an old HS friend offered me tickets to a game for FREE ( that is one of my favorite words!). I was so excited to go to the game this weekend……until Sean Taylor died early this morning. Wow, what a tragedy, they guy was 24 years old and was shot to death in his bedroom, while his girlfriend and baby looked on. I obviously don’t know the details about the circumstances that surround his death, but the whole thing saddens me.
I have heard many people say they are glad the current Skins head coach is at the helm during this tragic and trying time for the team. The Skins current coach is Joe Gibbs, a Godly christian man. Pray for him as he leads his team through this tragedy. May God use him greatly to minister and comfort his team!
Head coach Joe Gibbs said that he noticed that Taylor had matured in the last year, in part because of the birth of his daughter Jackie.
“Sean had a great relationship with the Lord and the feeling is that he’s going home,” he said. “It’s hard for us, because we’re here and we’re going to miss him. Not as a player, but as a person.”
My fellow Skins fan blogger Mamma D at Fairy Bread also posted on the Redskins.
I pretty much lost it when three of the guys on Redskins Radio on Comcast lost it on air. Then, later on, they showed this adorable pic of him with his daughter…. so sad… so sad.
Even though I am not a skins fan, my heart still went out to his family. I wasn’t aware of Joe Gibbs comment. Thank you for sharing that…I have to tell Simms. He will be happy to hear that.
Meanwhile, I pray that you are still able to enjoy going to a home game for your team this weekend. It is a fun atmosphere and I love how they have so many cheers for you to participate in – as long as you are a Redskins fan. 🙂
